Millionaire Bars

I was intrigued when I saw America’s Test Kitchen make this recipe on their YouTube channel so I thought it would be fun to try and it was supposed to be similar to a Twix so that sounded good.

This recipe is easy, but takes a little time just because there are layers. First you have to make the shortbread and that’s just mixing together the dry ingredients and then the melted butter. Press this into a prepared 9×13 pan, use a fork to poke some holes in the dough, and bake.

The caramel was the longest part just because you’ve got to get all of the ingredients up to a specific temperature and that feels like it takes forever when you’re stirring over high heat. Once it’s ready to go then you’ll pour this over the shortbread and let it set up before moving to the final step.

After the caramel has set a little you’ll chop the chocolate and then melt it in the microwave (only do 15-30 seconds at a time to avoid seizing). Once it’s melted then you’ll stir in the grated chocolate and stir until it’s all mixed together. Pour this over the caramel and using a spatula spread it so it’s a nice even layer and then you can sprinkle a little flaked sea salt on top if you want. This needs to fully harden before you cut into it.

These were really good and while they are a little time consuming they’re worth it. They did remind me of a Twix only better!
