Vanishing Oatmeal (Chocolate) Cookies

I love a good oatmeal raisin cookie, but my husband prefers chocolate chips. Every once in a while I’ll make a batch of oatmeal cookies and make half as chocolate chip and the other half as raisin just as a compromise. One year at work I did a voting challenge between two similar baked items each week for people to vote and the challenge included oatmeal raisin vs. oatmeal chocolate chip and it actually was quite split between the two. While I know a lot of people do enjoy oatmeal raisin whenever I make oatmeal cookies for others I usually make oatmeal chocolate chip since that’s usually unanimously loved.

These particular cookies served as energy in helping some friends move and were pretty easy to throw together. I honestly haven’t tried a lot of different oatmeal cookie recipes because having the recipe on the oatmeal box just makes it so easy. This recipe is tried and true and other than sometimes doing half of the recipe as raisin and half with chocolate chips I usually don’t try anything else. Hopefully you’ll see me branch out here a little more but for now let’s at least start with the basic recipe!

I’ve said it before but most of the time cookie recipes are pretty easy and this is no exception. The instructions are literally a paragraph – that’s it! The cinnamon here really adds a nice touch with the raisins and isn’t bad with the chocolate either. I think as long as you’re using a cup of either then substituting should be fine. I started this recipe before realizing I was actually out of chocolate chips, but I had a package of Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate Baking Chips so I used those.

Note: I generally try to be careful how I use those chocolate chips since they definitely have a more complex taste than just your normal semi-sweet chocolate chips. I think they have a bit of a deep smokey flavor which is great in some things but not others.

These turned out great and were the perfect snack post moving. If you’re looking for an easy oatmeal cookie recipe then this is it!
